Shuts of Shrewsbury No 27 - Rowley's Passage
Bridge Street Car Park - Barker Street Car Park A very short passage that runs under Rowley's House/Mansion between the two car parks on either side of the building. On the Bridge Street side there is a small courtyard: ![]() This area was a rabbit warren of buildings and yards until slum clearance in the 1930s. We are lucky that they saved Rowley's House. Unfortunately we lost Bugle Lane. On the Barker Street side there is the entrance to the museum: ![]() Rowley's House and the Barker Street Car Park have been put up for sale by the borough council. The car park will probably be built on and so a new urban fabric will be created here. It will be interesting to see how the passage will fit into this, if it does. -------------------- David.

Taken from the book Images of Shrewsbury by David Trumper (published 2006) -
“...the structure of the house was slightly altered by putting a passageway through the centre of the building to give access to both car parks...” (this occurred in the 1930s.) -------------------- David.
