Shuts of Shrewsbury No 28 - St. Austin's Passage
Lower Claremont Bank-Victoria Quay A new shut in the town centre has formed amongst the new and restored buildings in the St. Austin's/Victoria Quay (formerly Quarry Avenue) area. There is a gate at the Lower Claremont Bank end; opposite this entrance is the site of the multi-storey car park (thank heavens that's gone) which is now the St. Austin's Street Car Park. Anyway, here's the entrance to the passage: ![]() You get an interesting view of Frankwell when coming down the passage (which is on a slight rise). On the left is a service yard, which has vehicular access not from this passage but from another opening on Victoria Quay. ![]() The Victoria Quay end of the passage, with the (excellent) Armoury pub/restaurant on the right: ![]() A great little modern shut, on a par with Blower's Repository at the libraries. I believe it is owned by Morris Properties. A couple more of these please! -------------------- David.
