Title: York Road
Description: Bad as it's reputation?

Ant SPCS - March 4, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
Hi there,

Some friends of mine have recently been looking at buying a house on a cul-de-sac just off York Road.

They have been regailed with horror stories about the area and I was wondering if anyone had a view on it's bad rep?

In particular they are worried about house and car crime.

I don't think that it is as bad as people make out.

It used to be rough at the top end by the shops but it is better now that they have been rebuilt.

there are some troublesome elements but no worse than any other estate.

I was born and grew up in York Road and I can say hand on my heart that it is not a bad place to live.

Most are hard working people and the estate has just the same or less problems than any other place in the town.

The School is one of the best in the town and my nephew has just passed his IT exam a year early.

What I would say is go for it. you have jobs around there you have a good School and the house prices are low what else could you want!!

;)

Having lived in York Road myself, I'd agree with everything that you've written bakerboy.

I'm not so sure. To me, anywhere north of the station is dodgy, with teenage mothers pushing double pushchairs, heroin openly traded on every street corner, and rows of burnt out cars and houses; a place where anything can (and often does) happen. I'd advise them to escape now while there's still time.

You sarcastically exagerate there Town Walls, but it is true that many areas in Shrewsbury "north of the station" (and I live on that side of town myself) are poorer and "rougher" than other parts of town. The area around York Road is okay but I'm going to be frankly honest here with you guys - I wouldn't bring up my children (if I had any) in that area.

Many thanks for everyones responses. I've passed them on to my friends.

Ouch! I live in the North. But my Mother is not my wife or sister and my Dad is not my Brother. There's some strange goings on the other side of the river !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
