If anyone reading this is new to town or soon to visit, why not do what I did yesterday and take a little break from the bustle of Pride Hill, wander in the direction of the station, go straight on into the castle grounds and make the short climb to the top of Laura's Tower. Just through the castle gates, turn right, and up you go.
You get a great panoramic view and it's not much of a climb. Free entry to the grounds too. Closed Sunday though.
yes,it is well worth the walk.
the grounds are open on Sundays in the summer.
there is free admission for local residents and I believe that it is free admission for all at the moment as the top floor is closed.
so no excuses ,pop in.
incidentally Laura's Tower is usually opened up on the heritage weekends(September)
