And it's a senior Conservative politician too - hopefully his ideas form part of the Conservatives' policies for government...

As an old leftie (well I'm 30 soon) I have for some years now respected Alan Duncan as a man of integrity, intelligence and concerned social awareness. I want to believe that there's a credible Tory, rather than Thatcherite, opposition. But it's the 'hopefully' bit that worries me. Has the Conservative brand actually changed? Or will we be back to Thatcherite 'there's no such thing as society' as soon as they get elected?
However, if they want to bring back John Major instead, that'll at least be preferable to Blair/Brown. As long as he shows sufficient remorse for rail privatisation, that is.
I don't think the Conservatives are Thatcherite these days - they're a much more centrist, socially minded (and green) party. Foreign policy is also more balanced between support of Europe and the USA. All of which I am in pretty much agreement with.
Though I do wish they would reform the tax system to make it simpler and fairer!
I think most politicians are very 'sleazy' these days and definately in my opinion cant be trusted. Mori were commissioned by the Sun regarding this and here are their findings
