I heard on the radio this morning and I see its in the
Shropshire Star that the new £13 million stadium is closer to getting the go-ahead after planning permission to build over 150 homes on the existing site passed approval.
Its taken a while but at least the ball is rolling again (sorry no pun intended) :P
I did hear about that but it is a bit controversial as the existing meadow site is on a flood plane which means that (if I remember correctly) it is prohibited under environmental law to build houses there, but if they do I doubt anyone will buy the houses because it is well known about the regular flooding of the area when the river rises.
I have been told by people in the know that there is also a stipulation on the existing meadow site that it could only be used for recreation purposes so this could cause problems for anyone taking over the site.
Some Shrews fans that I know have voiced their discontent for the location of the new meadow because it will not encourage fans to attend because of the lack or local pubs, take-aways etc. Although I am not a big Shrews fan, I do see their point from a marketting prospecive, a definite lack of complementary businesses at the new location.
