Title: Cyclist

Surely the Telford cyclist should not have got off. I understand he was travelling fast for a cyclist but surely he should still have considered the traffic that was piling up behind him. This allows all on bikes to do as they please now. If there is a cycle path it should be used. I see cyclists on pavements in the town centre frightening many pedestrian especially elderly ones as they pass very close by, and they are not just youngster, adults also.

I am a cyclist and if I tried any of these antics I'm sure I would most probably be caught & fined.

I doubt the result will have given us cyclists a carte blanche to do what we want. Of course there are some thoughtless pavement cyclists in the town centre - but to be truthful, when the river is in flood and the riverside path is blocked, it's quite difficult to get across town without using Smithfield Road (a take your life in your hands job) or Pride Hill. Plenty of delvery vans appear from nowhere on Pride Hill in the morning - why shouldn't cyclists?

At the last Shrewsbury Cycling Forum, when the very same point was made - i.e. if there is a cycle path, it should be used instead of the road - participants pointed out that the Roman Road cycle path was often less convenient to use than the road, and some poor design features (such as the 'level crossing' over Canonvale) make it less safe than it could be.
