The Royal Navy is facing an even worse crisis, with ships continuously being cut and mothballed and the size of the fleet nose diving over recent years.

I find it very strange that a government that relies on the armed forces to carry out such an interventionalist foreign policy/agenda to not fund and manage our armed forces properly.

Nu Labor are now wrecking just about the last thing that we can be proud of in this country - the armed forces - the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the Royal Air Force and the British Army.

Oh come on, there's plenty to be proud of, we're not falling apart quite yet!

I agree though that if the government wants to send troops to every corner of the globe to poke their noses into every situation then they should equip them properly.

Maybe if they weren't sent in to so many conflicts they wouldn't cost so much though.

National service, and kill two birds with one stone, get the yobs of the streets and man the forces.

Bad idea and terribly un-English. Why would we want to man the forces with loads of youngsters who don't want to be there and who won't be trained to fight to the same degree as long term, professional soldiers? We're better off with a volunteer, professional armed forces. Anyway, finding recruits is only a secondary problem at the moment - cuts in equipment, bases and so on are the main problems. Basically what the armed forces need are not loads of troublesome teenagers, but hard cash to buy the stuff needed.

I agree with you we need to make sure that our forces have the best equipment

I think that what the goverment is trying to do is bring the armed force into the modern world one of their ideas is to have a rapid reaction force.

But to do this their must be change. We need to get our forces back from iraq and from afganistan equip them and give their familys better accomidation.

afterall they put themselfs on the line for all of us everyday

To me we still have the best forces in the world and we should treat them right :)
