Did anyone hear a loud bang last night?
it sounded like a single clap of thunder.
has anyone heard any weather reports locally?

Not a really loud firework?

heard in Harlescott,Herongate, Coton Hill and Minsterley.
enough to shake some houses and rattle windows.

Yes, I heard it in Meole. Whatever it was, it must have been powerful if it was heard over a ten mile radius.

I live in Meole Brace and we saw a big flash before the bang and figured that it was lightning.

welcome to the forum nivea.
was it too much of a flash for fireworks?

Hi s.g.d
thank you for the welcome. The flash was too bright to be a rogue firework and certainly looked like a flash of lightning across the sky which was followed by a big rumble of thunder.
The weather forcast yesterday did predict "freak conditiions" for the weekend.

Our Xmas tree flickered and we thought it was just another power failure so the loud roar that shortly followed was a huge surprise and I quickly shut down the computer! I did wonder if it was a mini earthquake as everthing shook a bit, but the lights flickering beforehand indicated thunder.

Sounds like it could have been lightning. But I don't notice loud bangs anymore after so many fireworks going off around here in Shrewsbury and where I live in Manchester!

I heard the bang as well, but I thought it was a firework.
However I'm reliably informed by a weather person that it was in fact thunder.
