I remember them being trialled in Oxford in about 1995 - we had a competition in my college to see if anyone could spot one actually being used to carry someone in the back, so rare an event was it. The whole thing lasted about a summer I think, although the 'Rickshaw Parking' road markings lasted a lot longer.

What about Indian Tuk Tuks,scooter powered rickshaws,they are using them in London.

Ha, we saw one being used in Gorse Lane, Bayston Hill. Poor bloke seemed to be coping well but I'm not sure I'd want to do that for a living.
