I don't listen to any local radio, I prefer to listen to my own music when i'm in the car, commercial local radio is always too mainstream/top 40ish and the adverts get on my wick while BBC local radio is worthy but a bit often a bit dull.
Somebody phoned me the other evening while I was eating dinner to ask me questions about the Severn, had I heard of it, what stations I listen to and when etc.

We don't have any local radio except in Mexico and all they play is Norteno music. :( Being an Anglo, I don't know if I could describe it except it's Mexican country mostly played by groups. Sometimes the bands feature accordians, tubas, lots of acoustic guitars, and trumpets. It was a novelty to me when we first moved here, but now I can't stand it. In the vehicles we have satellite radio.
I discovered the BBC Shropshire station online more than a year ago and I sometimes listen at home. I started to listen to the Severn at work because I could not install Real Player at work. The only time I have listened to the Severn is overnight and a little during the early morning hours. I like the overnight show even though there is no live presenter because they play more oldies. I suppose I still prefer the BBC because I'm an older f*** (47) and enjoy the oldies. About the only new stuff I listen to is alternative.

I've still not heard Severn FM - my car is either tuned to Kerrang or Red Dragon (depending on whether I'm in Cardiff or the Midlands), but most of the time I have my mp3 player on. Red Dragon is pretty awful anyway.

It takes a while for a local radio station to establish themselves, I think the Severn have a good soundmix, the presenters do not 'witter' on as much as Radio Shropshire presenters and provide an entertaining service, they seem very popular in the town. They have a comprehensive traffic and travel service and a very good news service. The presenters on the station are really quite talented in broadcasting simultaniously to North Shropshire as well, which must keep them on their toes, it would really confuse me as one minute they are broadcasting on 106.5 and the next on 107.1 providing two services. You'll have to listen to both stations in the day after 10.00am to see what I mean. Its nice to see truly local radio in Shrewsbury. Good luck to em !

Can I just point out one thing that annoys me - the woman who does the traffic report keeps saying "Ravens Meadow" - it's Raven Meadows!!!

Nope, I'm not one of the many local media types who are hiding in this forum (I'm not talking about the moderators by the way).
But I do have the Severn programmed into my digital radio so that I can tune into it in a hurry. Haven't listened to Radio Shropshire for ages. For the record, I usually listen to Virgin / 6 Music at home, and Radio 5 when driving.

They might as well call it Becon Radio Revisited as most of the presenters at Severn used to work for Beacon, Including Marion Mobile "the anoying woman in the van" as someone put it, one thing i do find anoying is the fuel she wastes and pullution chuned out of that van just to tell me theres a trafic jam on the other side of town, so long as the roads clear in front who cares

I saw her parked(engine running of course) in the slip road where Mount Pleasant Road joins Ellesmere Road.
perhaps her report that day mentioned the poor visibility for school traffic leaving the Grange.

Think they have to keep the engine running, the transmitter they use back to studio saps the battery power of the vehicle otherwise

I think the music can be good, but for as much as they go on about broadcasting from Abbey Foregate and whatnot, they don't give out nearly as much local news as you'd expect. Once on a STFC game day, the sports segment of the news came on and all of the football results were from the Premiership and they didn't even mention Shrewsbury Town at all. I thought that was pretty odd.

Sports is packaged into segments, Premiership, Coca-Cola leagues 1 & 2 then local teams when the updates come in with a reporter from the ground.

Theres nothing odd about comercial radiio ErickaB, it's just like listening to the ADMAG instead of reading it, but i would say that as the presenters are around my age they do play the music i like to hear, on another point i think Marion would be better off with a small electric driven eco car instead of a travel "Truck", it would put Severn in good stead to be seen as eco friendly, something about reaping and sowing, at least they can give us live flood information in abbey forgate, dont forget your wellies :)
one final thing, then 'll shut up, is'nt it funny the people you run into?
Will Tudor used to buy petrol at the garage i worked at
Marion and i were at The Hollies at the same time
and Chris do you remember Acoustic Arts?
