I was on the verge of buying a lcd tv,but before i did i have been researching the web and it turns out that some of them are no better than the old crt sets that people are being conned out of ditching, this is NOT tried and tested technology, and only this morning there was an expert on radio shropshire saying the same thing. These screens are made up of thousands of pixels, each one powered by its own transistor, its fairly common for some of these to fail, becoming dead pixels, these screens cant be repaired,be warned.
You get the same dead pixels in any TFT computer monitor too, I think i've found four in mine. To be honest you can barely notice it unless you look from about 2cms away and with a moving picture on a TV you'd notice it even less.
It's true though, you usually get a better picture using a good CRT and there's no real reason to buy LCD unless you're strapped for space or just want to look cool.
I'm only going to replace my TV when it breaks down, I don't see the point in spending £1,000 on a black box that does exactly the same as the black box i've got now, I only watch it for a few hours a week anyway.
Since my first post i went to Comet and bought a 28" Hitachi flat screen crt tv for under £200,i am now getting a 100% perfect picture via a Freeview box,the same size lcd would have cost best part of £800,and the programs would be no better, plus the fact i am not tied to Murdocks purse strings.
