Shrewsbury has lost a few public houses over the years do you know where these were?
1 Alma
2 Barge
3 Beehive
4 Coal Wharf tavern
5 Dog and Partridge
s.g.d.
Right, these are complete guesse
1. Alma - around Alma Street, Frankwell / Mountfields?
2. Barge - would make sense for this to have been around the canal somewhere, so I'm guessing somwhere around Castlefields (like the Canal Tavern today)
3. Beehive - this was (and the building still is, I think) in Kingsland on the corner of Kennedy Road and the road to Kingsland Bridge (hence Beehive Lane opposite)
4. Coal Wharf tavern - next to the river or canal, so could be virtually anywhere in Shrewsbury! Perhaps because steam trains needed coal, it was next to the old railway yard between Castle Foregate and Coton Hill?
5. Dog and Partridge - haven't a clue. Abbey Foregate?
some good guesses there.
1 was in New street
2 next to the English Bridge where the new road is going through.
3 correct
4 17 castle foregate
5 was in St Mary's Water Lane.demolished in 1888.

A pub on St Mary's Water Lane! That would be great to have these days.
Handy for rolling home, eh? ;)
