Title: Shrewsbury Guide

Chris Pritchard - October 7, 2006 09:40 AM (GMT)
As of Saturday 7th October 2006 our sister site Shrewsbury Guide is no longer in operation..

Shrewsbury Guide was a non commercial independent guide to Shrewsbury. The aim of the web site was to serve Shrewsbury residents, tourists and those interested in our county town.

During February 2002 I began to research and compile the information required for constructing the web site. After that I some time designing the layout of the site and with all the necessary information in place the site was launched on the 13th of April 2002.

From its launch Shrewsbury Guide steadily built up a number of loyal and regular visitors as well as those visiting the site for the first time. In November 2002 Shrewsbury Guide won the Shropshire Star community web site of the year award beating twenty other entrants something of an achievement only eight months after initially launching.

The second version of Shrewsbury Guide launched on March 1st 2003, a change which took several weeks of hard work to implement. The new design is easier to navigate and enables the availability of more information to visitors.

In recent months I have had less time to updated and maintain the website, so its with regret that I now have made the decision to close it completely for the time being.

So what have I achieved over the last five years, well I have made lots of new friends who have contacted me about the site, spoke to many amazing people from Shrewsbury and all over the world, won an award and had a great time along the way.

So long as the forum doesn't go!

No, this will be the main site from today onwards.

I'm going to start putting cinema listings and event listings onto here. The event listings will also go into the calendar.

If anybody would like to help then I'd be more than grateful.

I really think the site was a great asset to the town Chris. I thought it was commercial so youve done a great job! Youre such a busy bee!

It was a big decision to make, I have never gained anything financially from the site all the business adverts and listings done for free to promote local business within the town.

It actually cost me money to host the site etc but I never minded that its just the lack of time I now have which is causing the closure.

I’m hoping we can increase traffic on the forum and build this website as a full on-line community.
