Title: New Shrewsbury Theatre

Does anyone know when work is due to begin on constructing the new Shrewsbury theatre at Frankwell?

I don't think that they have actually agreed on the size or design of the theatre yet.

After years of thinking of an original name for "nev" the powers that be came up with the wonderful name of "Theatre Severn" - I know,I know how do they do it?

Thanks - they are certainly taking their time to make up their minds as the theatre was agreed ages ago. I asked because friends from London recently visited after a year's absence and inquired when the new theatre was being built and also what was happening about the desperately needed direct rail link from Shrewsbury to London and the latest progress on the new Shrewsbury shopping centre. I knew that progress was underway on the rail link but there had been a disappointing setback to the shopping centre's much needed redevelopment. While they were here during the glorious weather they fancied taking a boat trip on the Severn but there does not seem to be any facility on Victoria Quay for boat trips, which is a pity as there could be so much more activity (eg outdoor cafes) along the quayside and on the river. We concluded that there is a danger of complacency hindering Shrewsbury's development in comparison to other more progressive towns in the UK which have moved ahead more rapidly than Shrewsbury seems to be doing in providing leisure and transport facilities to boost business investment and tourism to the town.

it is not good is it?

in 1996 an ex-councillor,David Everington, wote a book loosely based on Shrewsbury and Telford - it was called "Staning Stillbury and Concrete Hardening" it does not look like much has changed in the last 10 years.

P.S. I think that the author might have something to do with the new local radio station.

I'm not sure on that one, he's not a board member and I have certainly not met anyone called David.

I don't know if he is still involved but he was a non-executive director at the application stage.
