Analogue TV viewers in Shropshire have not had a good time lately with the Wrekin being taken off air by protesters and now this essential work and the weather causing problems.

TV chaos as work done on Wrekin

Thousands of people across Shropshire were been left facing poor reception on their TV screens over the past 24 hours.

And experts say the disruption to viewing is likely to continue.

Programmes on all analogue channels receiving signals from the Wrekin transmitter suffered interference last night at peak viewing times.

And the poor quality pictures continued today as people switched on to the regular breakfast TV programmes.

People across the county were hit by poor reception on the signal, although digital viewers were unaffected.

A spokeswoman for Central Television said today that the problems were caused by a combination of vital engineering work on the transmitter and the weather conditions.

There is some interesting information about the mast and its transmissions at: http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/the-wrekin.asp.

Take a look at the picture taken in 1988 then compare it to the current picture just below the increase in aerials is unbelievable. Freeview and DAB transmission aerials and I expect all the mobile phone and PMR antenna as well.

Whilst we are on the subject of the Wrekin does anyone know is its beacon is working at the moment? When first installed back in 2000 I could just about see it very dimly lit in Shrewsbury but now there is nothing visible from my location.
