Title: Public Apology- Parking Gaff
Ant SPCS - August 22, 2006 10:45 AM (GMT)
Last night I parked my blue peugeot 406 in a disabled bay outside my home on Town Wallls. I parked it there in the knowledge that I had an appointment early this am and that I'd be gone before the town openened for business.
The appointment got cancelled and I forgot the car was parked down there. I've just gone down to it now at 11.30am (once my brain slipped back into gear) and a driver with disabilities had put a sticked on my windscreen....
It was bright yellow and said " GEE THANKS. YOU'VE HAD MY SPACE, MAYBE YOU'D LIKE MY DISABILITY TOO" Quite right too.
I feel rotten.. it was the biggest space and parking down there has been a nightmare since the town lost it's traffic wardens. To make it even worse, the sticker peeled off without leaving a trace so I don't even have to do penance with soapy water and a scourer.
Anyway, in the slim chance that this might get read by the sticker poster, I'm very sorry. I wouldn't wish a disability on anyone and folk should be VERY careful how they park in Shrewsbury at the moment. With the wardens gone, we have to police ourselves.

Shhh! don't tell anyone but the other day I parked in Abbey Foregate on the main car park and walked off without buying a ticket. I was amazed when I realised 3 hours later and ran back expecting a ticket that the car was fine I must have made it back before the attendant had been around.
I want some stickers for putting on 4x4's who park so close to your car, you have to use the opposite door to get back in. Although I can't think of any witty quotes at the moment to go on them.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way but one thing that is annoying me at the moment is the number of people who have disabled badges yet I see them getting out of their cars and walking around perfectly fine.
I'm not saying they aren't disabled in some way or maybe they have a non obvious disability like arthritis and can only walk a short distance. But its alarming the number of people who are using badges.
For example at the supermarket the other day I saw a lady get out of her car just ahead of me and get a trolley, whilst in the store I watched them walking around fine and even loading their car up perfectly normally as we finished shopping around the same time.
Now, they had used a disabled space with a badge - fine, but if they could do all that why did they need to use that badge or space on that day taking it away from someone who possibly really could have used it?

How about, "Oi! Just because your car can go off road doesn't mean you should try and park it on top of mine! (you gas gobbling, eco-evil mother-fumbler)"

I wouldn't feel to guilty about it.If the person has gone to all that trouble to get pre-printed stickers, they were probably pleased to have been given the oppurtunity to use one. ;)

Fair point, maybe he just goes around hunting for unauthorised use of disabled parking....
...Should still feel sorry for him in that case ;)

Hi .I am a new poster to this forum ,which I find is excellent. :P I am also a disabled person classed as severly disabled. :(
Now to the point in question disabled people need parking 24hrs a day not as some people think onlywhen the traffic wardens are on duty But you are the only person I have heard of who has admitted publically to useing a disabled place and then apologising. YOU [ant SPCS]are a star Apology accepted on behalf of all my fellow sufferers... :D The other point was blue badges,a lot of people use their partners badges as "I will only be a couple of seconds so it wont hurt". Also you find we have good days and bad days.I find on a good day with lots of pain relief I can walk 200yds with a walking stick and look pretty" normal" On a bad day I can't get out of bed even if I overdose on the pills So as they say dont judge a book by its cover and observe people over several days :)

Welcome to the forum lairdmichael and thank you for your comments about my post. I for one will be giving the disabled bay a miss in future (even out of hours).

Welcome to the forum lairdmichael,
Its possible the lady I wrote about earlier on could have been using a partners badge, in that case how annoying!
Take Shrewsbury town centre for example where there are limited parking spaces to start with, then you have partners or carer's possibly abusing badges its not on.
Lets hope when the new wardens come onto the streets they clamp down on the miss-use of badges so there are more spaces for those who really do need them.

I've never parked in a disabled spot ever I think it's tight, however I have got a 4x4 and like parking on top of other peoples cars.
Chris Pritchard - August 26, 2006 07:21 AM (GMT)
dirtyding how can you admit such a thing :P
Andy Cooke - August 26, 2006 07:55 AM (GMT)
I think 4x4's need to be delegated to the muddy countryside preferably off public highways they are far TOO BIG and from previous threads looks like their owners can be somewhat bullyish
Cloudscape - August 26, 2006 04:18 PM (GMT)
I have known of people whose parents are elderly/disabled being really chuffed to have disabled badges, because they think it means they can park anywhere (when the elderly parent isn't with them). It's quite common, apparently. :(
dirtyding - August 26, 2006 10:04 PM (GMT)
Nah I'm not bullyish, I try not to bring it into town, I'd like to have a small economical car to use aswell. But the cost of tax, insurance, MOTing doesn't add up, so as I need the 4x4 I'm stuck with it. Anyway I'm stealing the thread, people who park in the mother and child bays at the supermarkets, when they ain't got a nipper with them get my goat as well.
