Title: Freeview In Shrewsbury
Description: What's the reception like?

zxon - August 11, 2006 05:37 PM (GMT)
I live in Middlesbrough and my girlfriend (who lived in Guisborough nearby) has now moved to Shrewsbury to work at the young offenders insitute in Stokeheath. Anyway I want to buy her a freeview box as a housewarming present but I can't see what the reception is like in that area. I've put my girlfriend's postcode into the postcode checker on www.freeview.co.uk and it says that the postcode is not recognised.

Can anyone tell me what the freeview reception is like in the centre of Shrewsbury? I don't want to buy this for her if she cannot receive any additional channels.

Thanks in advance. :)

Well, Stoke Heath isn't in Shrewsbury, so the results there may be different to here!

I personally don't have Freeview yet (shocking) so I can't say. Sorry.

Stoke Heath is nearer to Market Drayton, Newport and Wem, btw.

Yes I know that. She commutes - I believe it's about 20 minutes drive away. She's living in the centre of Shrewsbury but she works in Stokeheath.

Just forget I mentioned Stokeheath ;)

Ah yes - I read your post too quickly!

I'm pretty sure we can recieve Freeview in Shrewsbury... I haven't heard of any problems. Only in South Shropshire is there a lack of signal.

Great! Thanks very much! I'll go buy it for her tomorrow on my day off from work.

hello zxon

i have no problems in Shrewsbury, the music chanels - 18 and 21- sometimes have a poor signal, but this is usually rectified by moving the ariel lead slightly.

I have just set up Freeview in the town centre and its fine, there have been no problems so far with the signal on an outdoor aerial.

I get 77 channels altogether including radio etc, not that any of them have much worth watching on, it just takes 20 minutes to go through them all before you know there's nothing on!!

I am thinking of going digital, but cant make up my mind on which system to use,Sky freesat, one of payment of £150 or Freeview, for which i will need a new aerial,i would like as many opinions on this as possible.

We have sky and freeview, if you only want to watch the free channels I would say go for freeview as because whilst ABC1, The Hits, TMF, and UK History are available on freeview if you had sky you would need a subscription to watch them.

The only advantage of sky if the hundreds of shopping, dating, gaming and other very poor quality channels to watch for free.

Will you have to get someone to install your aerial or could you do it yourself? we got ours from Argos and installed it in the loft, it then feeds into the bedroom and living room down stairs.
