hello katsnklaws and welcome,

Rowleys house - the Corbet bed(from Moreton Corbet) is supposedly haunted and the room that it is in is said to have its own ghost.

Shrewsbury Castle has Bloudie Jack.

Pengwern books,Golden Cross,W.H.Smith(not by post office queues)Prince Rupert,Lion and the old BT office building are all said to have ghosts.

The interactive map at SABC's website has an option for showing the "haunted sites" (marked with a Pacman ghost symbol) around the town. You can look at the rest of Shrewsbury at the site PlanAccess site, but in the meantime here's a screen dump of the town centre...

I know about a lot of these, but don't know the story of the ghost at the bottom of Mardol. What is it?

Has anyone else heard the tale of the ghost of an old lady who walks around the Mount area, but if you see her you are not long for this world?

the Mardol ghost might be the milk seller of the Roushill/Raven Meadows area. She was accused of adding water to the milk and repeats the rhyme:

Milk and weight sold I ever
Milk and water sold I never.

or something like that.

I'm afraid I've never seen a ghost and I've not seen many ghoulies either :)

Some years ago I used to work at the WH smith building. The haunted area is right at the top of the building - normally sealed off - but i have been through it - its an old kitchen - and it is very cold and creepy!
I believe the ghosty is meant to be a female kitchen worker who is said to have hung herself from the kitchen window.
Its not somewhere you want to be on your own!

also some of the books in the stock room mysteriously fall off the shelves.

Another reason for not moving the post office to WH Smith... the existing post office is about the only building at that end of town without a resident poltergeist!

it is a shame that they haven't got one as he might of got things moving,I was in there nearly 20 mins today - due to the volume of customers, the staff were doing a fine job.

The WH Smith ghost is quite famous, does it not disappear before the witnesses eyes.

Can you not also hear the wartime tea dance on the first floor at the front of the building? or am I getting confused.

a relative of mine has seen books "leap" off the shelves.

the ghost dance takes place there but i don't know anyone who has actually heard it.

I have been told about some activity on the lower level of the Woolworths store by a good friend of mine who used to work there.

The lower level (now leading to the darwin centre) used to be closed off and was used as a stock-room and one evening a friend of mine was sent down there to get some items when she heard the sound of a woman running in court shoes behind her.

When she looked around there was nobody there and when mentioning it to the other staff about it, she was told that this had been experienced quite often and that many members of staff didnt like going down there.

Slightly outside of Shrewsbury there are quite a few ghosties at the Wroxetter site and the area around Battlefield Chruch and Battlefield site is always worth investigating because there is often much paranormal activity going on around there.

I went on the 'Ghost Walk' around town a few months ago with Martin Wood the town crier, it was very good, lots of ghost stories and it included a trip into the haunted cellars of the Prince Rupert Hotel, a fun, cheap evening's entertainment

We went on the ghost walk too last November, although we never went into any buildings.

It was a great evening as you say and we also learnt a bit of history about Shrewsbury as well along the way. Maybe those of us who are interested could all book to go on a tour one evening around Halloween.
