s.g.d. - July 29, 2006 10:28 PM (GMT)
seeing an earlier post on a film being made in Shrewsbury made me wander how many films have been filmed here.

the ones that I know of:
Christmas Carol
Clockwise
This is Spinal Tap(not filmed here - just a Town shirt appeared in it)

tv programmes:
Ted and Ralph
Oliver
and something based around the Recruiting Officer with Brian Cox???

that is all that I can think of,anyone know of anymore?

s.g.d.

Remember the 90's tv comedy drama series "Oliver's travels" that starred Alan Bates?
One of the episodes (the first, I think) was filmed and actually set in Shrewsbury.
The thing that narked me about it was that they'd given 'us' all broad Welsh accents! Ruth (morning campers) Maddox appeared in this episode.

I remember the Ted and Ralph (Fast Show) episode, s.g.d .You got to see Butcher Row and the Three Fishes pub amongst other places.

Also, the very last "Fast Show" episode was filmed in and around Shrewsbury. You got to see Butcher Row and the Three Fishes pub amongst other places.

I think "olivers travels" was the one about the recruting officer. was there a pink neon sign on the black and white house at the Castle entrance?

Ted and Ralph was the fast show special, they also used Cound Hall as Ralph's house.

in Brookside Annabelle Collins came to Shrewsbury-and had an affair

also in Brookie Barry and Terry would go to Terry's aunt in Shrewsbury when they needed to lie low(bunburying?)but this was never shown.

I think a family in Holyoaks was planning on moving to Shrewsbury

any more?

Ghost Towns does ("im getting something to do with a dairy" - no c**p cadfael - you are in Milk street)

that pie pie sketch wasn't filmed here was it?

Actually I dont know where the pie sketch was filmed but it refferenced shrewsbury so if we can include brookside refferneces then I figured I could add that.

Funny thing about that. Not long after the sketch aired on BBC2 Lee and Herring played the Oakengates theare as part of their fist of fun tour and got booed by angry shrewsbury residents. I was still at school at the time but remember people saying what had happened.

Ghost towns was not so good; I like Derek Acorah but this was not one of his best shows.

okay,you win.

but we can now have Cadfael

one of the Inspector Morse books has Morse and Lewis drive upto Shrewsbury to interview a nurse in the nurse's home but I do not know if this was filmed.

I have work in the morning so "that's all folks" it has been a busy board today.

I agree with that. It has been busy on here and in the town today. I think I need to turn my laptop off and relax for a while. I will organised the photos in the morning.
