Salopians only go on the other side of the river for the fireworks.

the police have stopped us going in Beck's field for a few years now,the Boathouse beer garden is a good place but the tall Quarry trees block a lot.

I haven't been in yonks. I always enjoyed the military bands - but hating having to fight the wasps off my pint of beer.
avronb - July 30, 2006 06:46 PM (GMT)
Strewth RS,you must be a rich geeza if you can afford to buy ale at the flower show.
Redsquirrel - July 31, 2006 09:05 PM (GMT)
lol - oh, if only mate. One pint is usually the limit. Flower show prices sting harder than the wasps.

You can normally enter the show at a reduced rate in the evenings - unsure if they are doing this again this year?
Proud Salopian - August 10, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
Flower Show tomorrow and on Saturday - so for us it's time to avoid the town centre if possible!! :o
(although there are always the quieter, less busy ways through town...)

I went into the show this morning but by 2pm I was bored and left.
The die hard floral people where in there early then by 11am it was filling up with your average person who's there for a look around and nice day out.
I Have to say the displays where great and the dingle was looking fantastic. I overheard one couple commenting does it always look like this to which the reply by I'm guessing a local was yes! which I beleive to be true as its well looked after by the council all year round.

Went to town around 2pm (maybe it was a bit earlier) and saw the dogfight with two WW2 aircraft overhead!
Also, and I think they do this on Flower Show days every year, the castle was flying the Salopian flag rather than the Union flag. Very nice.

It's nice to get this fix of patriotism every year - songs, flags, military bands, and the feeling that something actually works in England - without football being involved.

At the train station today they were selling tickets at the entrance for passengers coming off trains wanting to go to the flower show. There was even an announcement on the platforms advising passengers getting off a train from Birmingham about the ticket sales downstairs!
I was impressed!
Proud Salopian - August 12, 2006 08:32 PM (GMT)
Yay! The fireworks again! :D
(I can watch them quite clearly from my bedroom window..)
s.g.d. - August 12, 2006 08:35 PM (GMT)

Proud Salopian - August 12, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
Yes, I saw them last night. Are they later than in previous years?
s.g.d. - August 12, 2006 09:02 PM (GMT)
i thought that they used to be on from 9.45 til 10.15 but that might just my memory thinking things were better in the old days.

I watched the fireworks tonight standing on my front garden wall - How common :P
They where good and yes much later than normal, so thats it the flower show over with and now the nights start getting darker even quicker.
