Title: Cafe Retreat

s.g.d. - July 29, 2006 03:32 PM (GMT)
Recently opened on the 2nd floor of the old St Nicholas church, comfy sofas with a view overlooking the library, fair trade products and homemade cakes.

if 2 floors of spiral staircases are a bit daunting there is a lift.

the original pillars and beams help make a tranquil environment

well worth a visit.

Sounds good.

Have you checked out the new cafe on Milk Street?

s.g.d. - July 29, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
not yet,is it worth a visit?

I must admit that I normally just go to the old market hall instead of trying new ones.

There seems to be a new one opening up every month at the moment.

s.g.d.

s.g.d. - July 29, 2006 04:18 PM (GMT)
perhaps we could have posters nominating their favourite coffee bar/cafe etc

Proud Salopian - July 29, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
I haven't been in, but I have walked past - it's "Bellini" or something like that and looks quite impressive. I think you can go upstairs and there could be some good views down High Street.

s.g.d. - July 29, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
I don't like ice cream which is probably why I haven't been tempted but an upstairs is usually enough to get me in any shop in the town,I will make it my next coffee stop.

I've not been in although a friend had and tells me they are quite pricy.

The Pantry is nice...

Yup, though they've also now got this new express snacks/drinks stall on Platform 4, near to the stairs.

avronb - July 29, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
For the realy brave there is a tea bar at the bus station,DONT USE THE TOILETS.

Proud Salopian - July 29, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
Lol! The only time I ever go to the bus station (other than to catch a bus of course) is to use the rather cheap shop and to get bus timetables.

avronb - July 29, 2006 09:00 PM (GMT)
Those toilets are so bad even the bus crews dont use them, they have to be the worst in the county.

I went to that shop yesterday, there were no youngsters hanging about and the station was clean and tidy.

Proud Salopian - July 30, 2006 04:02 PM (GMT)
Well that is unusual, sgd.

jonesy55 - July 30, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
Bellini does good ice cream, proper italian style stuff that tastes of what it's supposed to and more icy than creamy if you know what i mean. I also like the pantry and i used to like the third place in frankwell, shame it closed down, wrong location maybe.

Yup, though they've also now got this new express snacks/drinks stall on Platform 4, near to the stairs.

Yes, a bargain at £3.79 for a stale piece of bread with one small slice of watery ham and a few scrapings of cheese in it.

Proud Salopian - July 31, 2006 05:19 PM (GMT)
I never buy food or drink at the station - only a newspaper/magasine if I'm on a long trip somewhere.
