Chris Pritchard - July 2, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)

Shocking news but I suppose that's the risk you take earning money in that type of occupation if you know what I mean ;).

Alex - July 2, 2006 04:05 PM (GMT)
What Occupation?

s.g.d. - July 2, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
a 40 year old receptionist and a "working girl" in her 20's according to the football forum.

s.g.d.

Alex - July 2, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
The `working girl` is somebodys daughter, somebodys sister, maybe somebodys mother.
You guys, theres always a demand for that kind of work, because theres always guys who demand it.............

jonesy55 - July 2, 2006 04:47 PM (GMT)
The building trade is a risky profession so is being a deep sea fisherman but nobody would say that they deserved it if they fell off some scaffolding or got lost in a storm.

Yes they are and I feel sorry for their families, this is a tragic incident and I hope they catch the person who has committed such a dreadful crime.

Everyone knows what goes on at No. 13 although I did not want to say it in respect to those people who have lost their lives.

I grew up in a similar size city in the States. I was wondering....about how many murders are committed each year in Shrewsbury?

Proud Salopian - July 3, 2006 01:06 PM (GMT)
3?

I know the Shrewsbury in Bloom committee must be well  !

I think the judging is this week and large tents, huge numbers of police, forensics, ghouls etc is not likely to enhance the town.

Frankwell island for some reason seems to get all the money spent on it, we just get lumps of stone at Meole island. <_<

Heathgates Island, "my local" , is quite nicely kept.

They do look odd, at first I thought they had been placed ready for landscaping but they have been there for a few weeks with no sign of movement.

Maybe they are waiting for landscaping?

Its tragic, and scary that the murderer/s are still out there and maybe walking the streets of Shrewsbury

Alex - July 9, 2006 10:53 AM (GMT)
Its such a shame. The poor younger woman was a single mum, probably struggling to make ends meet.

Redsquirrel - July 9, 2006 12:48 PM (GMT)
It's an extremely horrible episode - as far as know, nothing as bad as this has happened in Shrewsbury within living memory.
.Given the amount of obvious risks involved with the 'oldest profession' - STDs, beatings, rape and every so often, murder - why would any woman choose to do this?
I suppose a 'massage parlour' is alot safer than the streets -but still, it stands to reason that in time, they're going to come into contact with some very shadey people.
I just hope the killer(s) is caught soon.

Alex - July 9, 2006 02:37 PM (GMT)
Hi Red Squirrel. having worked with `street girls`, they do this because they are desperate basically. Some of these girls have drug addictions, some just want to put food on the table and are all on there own with children and cant survive on benefits, or cant get a job which fits in with the child care. its an age old one. People say how can girls do this, dont they have any respect?, well they feel that they have no respect if they cant provide. Catch 22 situation. Ive never met a `working girl` who enjoys there job. All the girls I worked with told me that the majority of there `clients`, were married. Brings up a lot of questions doesnt it?. I wish it would be legalised and the girls were looked after, kept clean. Its like the drugs issue isnt it, if it were more accepted it could be somewhat regulated. walks

avronb - July 10, 2006 03:45 PM (GMT)
Make it legal like the Dutch.

Redsquirrel - July 10, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
I reckon you're right Alex and Avron, making it legal would keep the women safer -I think it'd would go some way to ridding us of the vile people trafficking crises that now appears to have rocketed in the last few years.
How many of these poor women are suffering because of this evil 'trade'? Thousands I'd bet.
Pimps are like the drug barrons - they make a fortune off the backs of countless victims.

For everything I've said about Islamic societies before now -I'll give them their due - they know how to deal with this kind of scum.

Just heard that two people have been arrested in connection with the murders, its seems that yesterdays release of CCTV video footage may have helped.

I know the two people who were arrested they live just down the road from me in Welshpool, I know the family and I cant believe it. Very very scary to think hes been walking around our streets for weeks.
It was strange because we saw the cctv footage on the news and my partner said "thats Gary Harding!" (his name has been released so I can say)but you know when your not sure so we didnt phone the hotline, but I bet alot of Welshpool people did. And then it was in the local paper saying they had arrested him and his brother but released one without charge. I havnt heard any more since although there are several different rumours flying around Welshpool.

UPDATE: Garry Harding has been charged and remanded and is due in Shrewsbury crown court on Sept 4th.

i was also in shock by this as i come from welshpool and so does my husband!!! Williow do i know u? lol

Town_Walls - September 4, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
I know that you will all think that this is a painfully politically correct point to make, but Mr Harding hasn't been found guilty yet. Does he really need a character assassination on here?

I don't really like this attitude I've been hearing (although not particularly on here) of 'there's no smoke without fire' and 'because he's been arrested and charged he must be guilty'.

willow - September 5, 2006 07:53 PM (GMT)
How is stating what has been in the papers character assassination?

I have my own opinion on the situation but I will not state that on here, being from Welshpool it makes things a little different as its a small town and everyone knows everyone.

I dont see the problem with whats been said here as its common knowledge.

And Emzy2006, yes I do know you...!
