Title: Whaling

Why do some countries think it is now time to resume whaling, why the hell cant we leave these gentle creatures alone, they have nothing that cant now be manufactured synthetically.
Proud Salopian - June 17, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
The countries that approve of commercial whaling are backwards. It's a sad time for international conservation and sanity.

Cant the anti whaling countries put more pressure on the Japs and others and bring them into the 21st century.

Did anyone catch "Coast" on BBC 2 last Sunday it was a repeat but they had a feature about whaling. I agree with avronb there's no need for it these days.

When I think of Japan, Norway and Iceland 'backwards' isn't the first word that springs to mind, but yes it should be banned properly.

Maybe not backwards economically, but there other measures of human success than the accumulation of money!

And of course, neither Norway nor Iceland are members of the EU (and nor is Japan for that matter!), so they're not all bad.

I was about to post the EXACT same statement. ;)
Although I don't want to see whales back on the menu, I see where some of the countries are coming from. If you legalise something, it can be easier to regulate and control. If it's illegal, then there is a greater risk of a black market and let's face it - hunting continues despite its illegality.
