Shhh!! :ph43r: Don't mention it to all those potential tourists out there! ;)
Seriously though, great photos - we really do live in a beautiful and diverse place. :)

Um, where's this?

Can't remember seeing this shop. Is it new?
Town_Walls - June 17, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
It's in St Mary's Place. Imagine you've walked from St Alkmund's / The Loggerheads, then crossed over St Mary's Street and are heading for The Parade. The shop pictured is on your right, opposite St Mary's church.
I am only sounding so smug about this because I spotted the very same shop about 3 weeks ago for the very first time, while taking the scenic route (i.e. not Pride Hill) to the station one morning.
Proud Salopian - June 17, 2006 08:21 PM (GMT)
I've never noticed it - though I'm not really into coffee and tea that comes in a bag will do me!
St. Mary's Church reflects well in the window on that shot.

In picture 39 you can just see Shelton water tower, does anyone know where abouts it was taken from?

Laura's Tower, no?
Chris Pritchard - June 17, 2006 08:34 PM (GMT)
It could be, I guess only Jonsey will know :)

I took it from Laura's tower in the castle grounds, glad you all liked the photos.
Avronb, yeah, next time i'll take thirty pictures each of the market hall and shirehall!!:)

WOW! ....Brings back some memories....I'll have to tell my Mom about these. Thanks so much.

Yes that will be nice, the Market Hall looks particularly good from Cirrus House and it is good to remember those of us who enjoy architecture and not just anything that is 'OLD!'

Frightfully sorry, i've absolutely nothing against modern buildings, you got pictures of Mansers and Nexus what more do you want!!
The problem is that Shrewsbury doesn't exactly have a wealth of good buildings from the past 50 years. The market hall is a terrible design, shoving all those stalls on the first floor so that they get ignored by most people and grannys can't get to them, the offices are also unused because nobody wants to be located there and the extrior of the building is nothing special,
The Council chamber at Shirehall is quite interesting but apart from that it's just another bog standard municipal building.
I could have taken a picture of Lloyds bank I suppose but places like the Riverside precinct, raven meadows car park, princess house, crown house and the backsides of the darwin and pride hill centres are just plain ugly, not good examples of their era or type( I quite like the building opposite St Mary's church though with the painting shop and Truant and Vinegar Hill on the gound floor). If we had the equivalent of Urbis or Imperial War Museum North in Manchester or Selfridges in Brum or some fabulous Le Corbusier creation that would be great unfortunately but we haven't.

Where is the subject in Photo no. 2? I just can't place it. And is the water the Severn?
