Title: Living In Shrewsbury
Description: looking for a place to stay

JJ Bakker - July 14, 2004 04:41 PM (GMT)
Hello everyone!
My and my girlfriend want to rent a place in shrewsbury for half a year, starting somewhere in august or september. ( We both start our internships around that time)

I'm looking for some info on what the best place to look for an appartement is, etc.
So, i'm looking for all the information that could come in handy.
We have around 300/400 pounds to spend on rent, what can we expect to find for that?

We are from Amsterdam- The Netherlands, and we haven't been to Shrewsbury before, so you always know more than we do!

Post a reply, or even better send an email: jobbakker @ Hotmail . com

Thanks in advance!

£400 a month will get you a two bedroom apartment or terrace house in Shrewsbury - the best thing to do for finding property is to get the Shrewsbury Chronicle newspaper, which comes out every Thursday. There you will find a huge property section and I'm sure you'll find a fair few homes of your fancy! :)

My best bet in terms of areas of the town where you will find cheap, rentable property is either Belle Vue or Castlefields. Both are near to the town centre.

Thanks for the reply! I'm still looking, but I found a property on Abbey Foregate that seems nice. I can only rely on words on the net, because I havent seen any photo's from the apartment.
I'm from The Netherlands, so it's probably not that easy to get the Shrewsbury Chronicle newspaper,.. Or do they have a website?

Unfortunately they don't have a website, although most of the major estate agents in Shrewsbury will do. I don't know how you'd get hold of a copy of the Chronicle where you live... sorry.

re: your email - I used to live on Abbey Foregate and it's a nice place... if you don't mind the traffic, which can build up on the weekends especially. The town centre is very near and so are two supermarkets and the Abbey Church. That apartment sounds like good value, but try to get some photos of it first! :)

I have just found another way to search for property in Shrewsbury by using the Shropshire Star web site.

http://property.blackcountry.com/Property/...y/ss_search.php

From "Select Status" drop down menu choose "TO LET" then choose Shrewsbury as the area and finally the rental price you wish to pay.

You don't need to select anything else unless you wish to narrow you search down to either houses or flats etc.

Thanks for the link B)

It has the Abbey Foregate property which JJ Bakker is looking at on it.

Btw, The Abbey Foregate property is gone already,..

Hello everybody ;)

I'm glad I've discovered this site.

I am from Slovenia and I am also moving to Shrewsbury, so I'm looking for a place to rent and you've helped me a lot...

Thanks.

If you can think of any other tips on where and how to look for properties to rent, I'll be happy to listen...

Any tips on living in Shrewsbery? (JJ Bakker might have usefull information, since he must have some experience as a newcomer to Shrewbury by now :) )

Proud Salopian - September 2, 2004 06:13 PM (GMT)
Tip - try to avoid living in a flood zone!

Thanks for that "little" tip. ;)

And the flood zones are.......... where????

About half of town... ;)

No, seriously now, when you research your property options ask if it floods. If they lie to you, sue them afterwards! But they shouldn't lie to you if you ask nicely.....

Here are some flood zones in Shrewsbury:

Frankwell
Abbey Foregate
Coleham
parts of the Town Centre
parts of Underdale

Just try to be careful! Flooding has got worse in recent years and so it's now an issue here... then again, property that floods can be cheaper...

And the Dutch people should be used to canals?

Proud Salopian - September 9, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
Who said anything about canals? We're talking about the mighty River Severn!! :D
