Hi everyone, i am trying to find out any information on the Column House Private Hotel, (that used to be).
I know that i used to be or stand on Wenlock Road, Shrewsbury.
I also know that the proprietress was Mrs A Carter, (My great grandmother)
Any more info pics or knowledge about this place, my great grandmother or any of the Carter family is very much apprieciated

I think that the building is still there and now used by the council.

i was told it was knocked down and became the column roundabout :huh:

I am not 100% sure of this but I thought that Column House was on London Road
and the old White Horse was on the Wenlock Road.the White Horse was cleared for the island and the name moved to the present building.
the building, that I thought it was, is up for sale so if you happen to have a million pounds....

it would appear that you were told correctly that the Column Hotel was knocked down to make way for the roundabout.
the hotel was the second "Column House", which has caused the confusion.
it was probably demolished in the 1970's.

Wow thanks hun, i've been searching for other pics and info on it for ages, also about the proprietress who was my great nan, you have better brains than me must be the cardiffian in me sending me doolally
I also have a photograph of my great nan the photographer engraving on the bottom is Mallinson Shrewsbury. Any help would be grat on that also :)

J.Mallinson was a photographer at 13 Frankwell in the 1930's/1940's.

in 1964 and 1967 directories Column House is listed as a private hotel with Albert H.Carter as proprietor.
