Listening to the radio this morning about homeless people in the town and elsewhere, only the other week i heard of a council down south that was bending over backwards to house Romanian gypsies that were flooding into the area, while the local homeless were being ignored, the same thing could be happening here for all i know, its something the council would not want to make public if it is.
Yeah, Shrewsbury has a fair number of homeless people. You see them often around the Severn bridges, in the Quarry or in churchyards in town. Quite depressing.
There're about 30-40 at the last estimate. The shelter has accommodation for 12 (men only) and it's full up, with a waiting list in double figures.
It must of cost the council a bomb to resurface the paths in the Quarry -yet there wasn't enough money to keep Derfald House open.
Sadly ironic that the Quarry is often used by some homeless people to sleep at night. Hope they appreciate the new coloured footpaths.
