I am in Canada and coming to visit mid May. I need help. Does the Slipper bar still exist? Can anyone give me the phone number? Maybe some "regulars" would remember John Townley.... Thanks, Nancy

hi Nancy
the building is still a bar but it is unrecognisable from the days of the Slipper.
it became Jacksons, the Merchant Stores and is now called Rowley's.
I hope you enjoy your visit and please do not hesitate to ask for more help if you require it.

Thank-you. I really do need help... I am looking for a baby born to John Townley in the mid sixties. Do you know of a place to search birth records? I have really no information on the Mother to help me. Is there only 1 hospital in Shrewsbury? Thanks again! Nancy

hello again,
Cross Houses hospital and the Royal Salop Infirmary were the main two hospitals in the 1960's,although Copthorne Hospital(Royal Shrewsbury Hospital)became the main maternity hospital from about 1968 and is the only one that is still a hospital.
for records contact www.shropshirearchives.co.uk
or telephone them on 01743 255350
they are normally very helpful

If they are half as helpful as you have been, I may be laughing... I'm going to try the website right now and I'll let you know.

Hi! I have been in contact with the librarian and now I am emailing high schools in the area to see if they have "year books" where John can look through the photos. I have no idea where the lady we are looking for went to school... the only one I thought applicable is the Shrewsbury High School for Girls. I cannot get an email address for Sundorne or Wakeman schools. I don't even know which were around 1962-4..... any info would be appreciated!! Thanks, Nancy
