Title: Pedometers
avronb - January 30, 2006 10:27 AM (GMT)
Listening to Radio Shropshire people were phoning in saying they had done over 45000 strides during Sun afternoon, that works out at walking from here to ludlow.
You MUST calculate the stride length, with shoes on walk at you normal pace for 10 strides,do this several times to make sure the distance covered is the same every time, measure the 10 stride distance and divide by 10 that will be your stride length ,my stride is 27.8,so to cover 4.39 miles i would have to do 10,000 strides.A good web calculator is SPORTENGLAND,this wil work everything out for you.

I remember being given a pedometer at school, and everyone vigorously shaking it. The results were so distorted, people were walking 20+ miles to get to school in the morning.
I remember managing to clock up 17miles in my 5minute walk.
The evaluation at the end probably should have read something along the lines of "don't trust children in experiments, they cheat".
I tend to do the same thing when out running - or thinking about running while watching holyoaks.

I had a pedometer when Walkers crisps where giving away them for free, I gave up after a while as those did not register enough steps. I suppose the more expensive ones are better.
I think its great that Radio Shropshire are making people more aware of their health, well done Jim, its just a shame I could not make the Big Walk Out the other week.
