Title: Ghosts In Shrewsbury?

Chris Pritchard - April 17, 2004 10:08 AM (GMT)
I would be grateful if anyone could add to the following list of haunted places in Shrewsbury.

St. Julian's, The Abbot's Lodge, Prince Rupert Hotel, WH Smiths, The Parade, The Old Police House, The Hole In The Wall, Shrewsbury Railway Station, Shrewsbury Museum, Barracks Passage, The Dun Cow.

If you have any stories or names of locations please post them.

I went on a ghost tour of Shrewsbury a few Halloween's ago, I had forgotten about the castle ghost.

Another place that is quite spooky at night is the Battlefield Heritage Site, there are also one or two spirits around Battlefield church.

I'll dig out a few photo's and post them on here over the weekend.

Ahh I had forgotten!

First of off read this page for an explination to what you will see on the photo's.
What are orbs?

Then have a look at these photo's taken at Battlefield and make your own mind up to what they are. I'm in a paranormal group of which several people have all had the same results when taking images in the area. There have been many ghost sightings near the church of lonely figures walking the battlefield (which is now a heritage site) on the anniversary of the battle.

look to the far right of this picture taken at Battlefield Church there is an unexplained mist.

Mist captured on the walk back from the battle site towards the church.

I have only put three up as they are quite large and will slow the page loading time. If anyone is interested I'll put a page together with similar images taken at Morton Corbet Castle near Shawbury.

I'm not saying that these are ghosts or anything spiritual just that they are unexplained occurrence's caught on camera.

I like the photos, very interesting.

I have also heard reports that there is also a black swirling mist that has been seen by many people at Pimley Manor before it was converted into a business center which is said to be a nasty spirit.

I have also been told by some people who work there that the Royal Mail building is also haunted especially in the corridors around the admin offices.

Just looking through the archive, and thought I'd resurrect this ancient thread...

I know most of these stories, but what about Castle Court? I suppose it could be tied up with the old 'House of Correction'. Surely it's not the phantom milkmaid of Raven Meadows 'on tour'?

Not up on the history of ghosts. I will say that I used to work in Old Coleham and once, at work we held a seance. Loads of 'Monks' replying to an upturned glass and all the text in Latin. Spookie or what?

"The Old House on Dogpole is haunted by a noisy ghost who is heard but seldom seen. It is thought that the phantom is that of an old man" - from "Shropshire Folklore Ghosts and Witchcraft" by Jean Hughes 1977 (ISBN 0 9505832 0).

the Old Police House- Castle Court

a frequent visitor is said to be that of a policeman who hung himself in the late 1800's.

the poor chap must have changed his mind though as he was found with his hands between his neck and the rope.

the Old Gaol

the building opposite was once used as a gaol and whilst later being used for offices various items of stationery would "float" across the room as if they were being carried at waist height by an invisible spirit.
