I dont know about anyone else but i'm in no hurry to buy a set top box to receive digital,i embrace tecnology with open arms but this time i am holding back until Central TV pull the plug in 2012.The main reason is the program content on Sky and digital,or perhaps i should have said lack of content, and whats the point of 100s of channels when you can only watch one at a time.

If you have a widecreen TV then its worth upgrading via the freeview route for just £29.99.

Not only will you get more channels but it will enable you to watch normal channels 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 in true widescreen the tv will even switch properly to the correct format 4:3 or 16:9.

I've been putting off getting freeview because when I check my postcode it says we might need a special aerial or something. Did you have to get one Chris?

We use Freeview in the kitchen on a portable tv with no outdoor aerial and its fine, sometimes you have to move the aerial to get certain channels but other than that no problems.

I live in Sundorne and I think most people here are able to receive the signals without any problems.

When I entered my post code at http://www.freeview.co.uk it also says I need an upgrade, but I think you should be ok. Do you know how old your aerial may be kiaora?

FREEVIEW covers your area but you probably need a new type of aerial.

The search indicates that FREEVIEW covers your postcode but as well as an box (or integrated digital television) you probably need a new type of rooftop aerial.

Why a different aerial?

Because FREEVIEW signals in this area use a different transmitter or frequency than your existing analogue television. Unless you already have one, you need a different type of rooftop aerial for digital reception. We recommend a "wideband" aerial.

Well I live in a rented house in Meole Brace at the moment. Going by the estimated age of the fridge, I'd guess at 1975. We're (hopefully), moving to the first house of our own in Bellevue early next year though, so I guess if we need to upgrade that's the time to do it.
