Title: Shrewsbury In Pictures
Description: Project Idea and Questions Section

ChrisBradley - August 20, 2005 12:43 PM (GMT)
This is an idea that both Chris Pritchard and myself have been taking about for a while but because of our work schedules we cannot find the time to actually go out and achieve it.

Because of the current wave of re-development in and around the town we feel that it would be a good idea to try and create a snapshot of the town and surrounding areas in pictures and post them on a dedicated section of the forum or on the shrewsbury guide site so that visitors, ex-pats etc can see the town as it currently is and to hopefuly preserve this part of the towns history for furture generations.

Inspired by Proud Salopian's extensive Shuts and Passages project, we thought that we should open this up to the members and visitors of the forum to submit current or recent pictures of Shrewsbury that could be laid out in sections dedicated to areas of the town (i.e town center, harlscott, meole brace, gains park etc.)

Pictures taken on anything from a camera phone through to a top level camera are accepted because documenting the town is the key factor and not the technical level of the pictures.

Any pictures added would not be used elsewhere by us and would be credited to the photographer who would retain full ownership of their work.

If anyone has any suggestions or questions about this idea or on its implementation then post them here and they would be greatfuly recieved / discussed.

I have a few recent pictures of the delapidated Shropshire Lad building to add that I took especially for a family member in the USA who was asking about the building recently and I know Chris Pritchard has a few taken around the town so with the forum members help I do see this as a feasible idea.

I've been so busy s.g.d sorry your question has not been answered.

Chris Bradley is putting together a "how to guide" which will be on-line soon or you could if you want e-mail us any pictures to host a post on the forum for you.

I'll put a few of my pictures I took a couple of Saturdays ago on soon.

Thanks to Chris Pritchard for replying to s.g.d's question which due to my chaotic work schedule recently and my internet computer crashing every few mins (thank you windows xp!) I was unable to get online long enough to reply.

I have moved the how to explanation that was here into its own pinned thread within the Shrewsbury Photos section and added some information about the free (open source) image editing software (GIMP) that I personally use and find useful.

Greatings all.

I've got some aerial photos of Shrewsbury, taken over the past 18 months or so, that you might find interesting. Here's one of Gay Meadow and Shrewsbury town centre. Lots more at www.aeropic.co.uk

I like that one and this one - shows the new St Julians Friars development nicely.

Looks like a bomb site. I can post a close-up view of it if you want.

I just mean the photos show nicely where the houses are being built and where the new road linking the English Bridge with St. Julian's Friars is going.

I can't remember what was there before. Was it old warehouses?

Here's the best close-up I can do before it gets blurred.

good picture,thanks for that.

it was mainly garages before - Greenhous mostly and Wadham Kennings had smaller premises next to the bridge(on the site of the Barge Inn)

Thanks for that.

You can see the route of the new road that will take traffic away from the bottom of the Cop. The road will then carry on to meet the Town Walls road, just before the BT building. It will be a bit like a bypass... sort of.

Does anyone know what these new roads are to be called? Will they simply be St. Julian's Friars?

I think I've seen St. Julian's Mews on a map of the area before - I hope not! Not another "Mews"!!

Gosh - look at how much the river is silting up under the English Bridge!!

Great pics Joshnolan. I don't think I'll ever get bored of the view of St Chad's from Porthill Bridge.
