I have been set the challenge of answering this Brainteaser:
What's as light as a feather, but to heavy for even the strongest man to hold for more than a few minutes?
I've searched the net and can't find any answers but if anyone can help with suggestions I'd be grateful.
I found the answer after much searching:
Q: Light as a feather, there is nothing in it; the strongest man can't hold it
for much more than a minute?
A: Breath
Reminds me of a similar one (which doesn't work when written down, but ask it quickly to some one)...
Which is heavier? A tonne of feathers or a tonne of bricks?
does that actually need a reply?
Anyway, as we're on this thread:
3 men are sitting a restaraunt. The waiter brings the bill and charges them £30. They all pay £10 each.
The waiter realises when he gets to the till that its only £25. So he pockets £2, and takes back £1 to each of the three men.
Each man has therefore paid £9 (total = 27) , the waiter has £2 in hs pocket (total = £29).
Where did the last £1 go?
That one is actually quite easy - the question misleads the person into messing up the maths.
Each man paid £9 each (by giving £10 and recieving £1), totalling £27. The bill was for £25. The £2 extra they paid was stolen by the waiter.
There is no missing £1.

Another way of looking at it is that you don't add the £2 to the £27 but instead you have to take it away from the £27. This is because while the men paid into the system £9 each, the waiter took money out of the system (the £2). The system never had more than £27 net.
