A Telford teenager was punched to the face in what is believed to be one of the first instances of "happy slapping" in the county.
The 18-year-old was walking along Dale Acre Way, Hollinswood, when he was approached by two unknown males at about 7.30pm on Thursday.
One of the attackers punched him to the face while the other recorded the incident on his mobile phone. The offenders then walked off towards a nearby chip shop.
Telford police today appealed for witnesses to the assault, which officers said left the teenager extremely distressed and suffering facial bruising.
The incident is similar to the sadistic new craze of happy slapping in which someone is assaulted while new video and camera phones are used to record the incident and add to the humiliation.
Telford Police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield said a man sitting in a nearby car, possibly a Rover, could have vital information. |
Last week in the national media there was reports of bullying and antics being recorded on mobile phones for fun and shown to others as amusement. Tonight in the Shropshire Star its reports the first known case in Shropshire.
If this had NOT been highlighted last week, I wonder if this incident would have taken place. It seems to me that sometimes sad individuals get idea's from the media and recreate such incidents.

Yeah the media can spread things like this. But in the end it's down to the sheer stupidity and yobbish behaviour of some people in our ever declining society.
The do gooders have had their way,the pigeons are now coming in to roost,i dont wish to be a doom monger, but i truly believe we are on the road to anarchy in this country.Lord of the Flies and Clockwork Orange were works of fiction when they first came out,not so futuristic now though.
