Shuts of Shrewsbury No 14 - Bowdler's Passage

Wyle Cop - Beeches Lane

The last of the Wyle Cop passages on this side of the hill and the passage is the opening on the left of the photograph.

The shut on the right of the photograph is Compasses Passage. Despite the two passages starting near one another, they take completely different routes. Bowdler's Passage takes a turn and emerges on Beeches Lane.

The shut ends at Bowdler's House on Beeches Lane (the road leading to Town Walls). Some steps take you down, or up, around the house (which I think is now a dentist surgery).

The public right of way technically does not incorporate the final part of this route (the steps running around the house) and there is a sign saying "no public right of way". There's even a gate - which is always open. Follow my lead though - feel free to use the full length of this passage.
