Shuts of Shrewsbury No 2 -
Castle CourtCastle Street - Raven MeadowsAgain, as with Blower's Repository, I'll begin from the top and travel down to Raven Meadows. This time we start on Castle Street, next to the cycle shop there.

Castle Court is the name of the top part of this passage, which has recently been repaved and has housing on both sides. It was once known as the
House of Correction Shut, which is rather odd. The passage then begins to slope downwards and then the steps begin.

The steps were built when the Darwin Shopping Centre was built and connect Castle Court with the bus station on Raven Meadows below. They have no name, so I just count them as being part of Castle Court. You will usually find, like I did today, a group of bored and rather dull 12-15 year olds hanging around on one of the benches in this wooded area. But don't worry - they generally are less than 5'5'' in height.
Note - on Castle Court, just as the slope begins, on the left is a doorway which leads to a rather grim passage which was once part of the Raven Hotel. This leads eventually, though don't bother - it's not nice, back to Castle Street, next to where Deep Pan Pizza once was. The passage, like a few others (Owen's Passage, Bythell's Passage, Budgett's Passage), were decimated by the huge new commercial developments of the 1980s.
