Title: Have You Got Broadband?
Chris Pritchard - February 23, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
I've been on broadband with Pipex for almost 12 months now, after successfully campaigning getting BT to upgrade our Harlescott telephone exchange my broadband connection went live on March 3rd 2004.
Now I could not live without it, its permanently connected for e-mail and updating Shrewsbury Guide along with running the weather station once I get it back on-line.
Which leads me to the question have you got broadband and what do you use it for? has it changed your use of the internet?

I've had broadband for the past six months.
Download times are dramatically reduced. The most significant advantage for me is having full use of the telephone, thus removing any constraints on how long your on the net.

I've had broadband (512kb) since 2002 and cant see how I managed on just a dial up connection. I've recently been told by my ISP that exchanges are being updated now so I will be able to get a 1MB connction within the next few months.

I'm still on dial-up as I don't need broadband. The only plus really would be the use of the phone while I'm connected to the net. But that's it.

just thought I'd bump this as the shrewsbury exchange has had an upgrade, I'm getting extremely good speeds (1800-1900) out of a 2Mb connection with plusnet.

I've got Bulldog broadband, it's only 512k at the mo.. but reasonably quick.
The only downside is that it gives interferance on the phoneline :(
Chris Pritchard - October 26, 2005 04:05 PM (GMT)
Will, the interferance on the line could be down to poor broadband filters.
Have you got a filter on each phone in your home?
Will - October 26, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
Not sure, although one of our phones is an old 70's pulse dial one, so I doubt that one does!
Chris Pritchard - October 26, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
You need to make sure all the phones have filters, that should solve the problem.

Okay, it looks like I might have found the computer people. I've asked before, but no response. Don't know if I should bring my laptop with me to the UK. I know I'll need a power converter, but will internet access be available? I know some of the hotels have it, but we plan to enjoy the bed and breakfasts, when we can. I'd like to be able to connect and check mail on occassion, since I also don't know what kind of service I can expect on my cell phone. But I imagine that's a question for my cell provider.
