Just to remind everyone that as of 1st April the district/borough councils will exist no more. Information about the new unitary authority for Shropshire - simply called "Shropshire Council" - can be found here:
http://www.shropshire.gov.ukhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shropshire_CouncilElections will be held on Thursday 4th June for the new unitary council as well as for the newly established town council for Shrewsbury.

I hear that Rowleys House is on the cards to home the new Town Council. Whats wrong with the expensive Guildhall that was built in Frankwell, surely there are smaller rooms they can use for looking after the town?

Rowley's House was on the cards to be the new home of the town council, but I think the council will be based and have its meetings at the Guildhall, for the time being anyway.
Thing is, Rowley's House has NO use whatsoever, as the museum is moving to the Music Hall.

I hope it works out better than the useless Wrekin District Council did, in 1974!
Wellington had two really good councils, urban and rural. Until they were destroyed and became part of Wrekin District Council. Within a year or so, all the good had been destroyed and the new district council became a by-word for waste and inefficiency. Hence the popular name Wrecking District Council.

Not for another two years - they've got all the renovation and restoration work to do at the Music Hall first. I reckon they'll still find smaller exhibitions to have at Rowley's House even after the Music Hall centre opens, and there's no reason why a tourist information station couldn't stay there.

Except for the cost of doing so. The Music Hall will be the town's museum and tourist information centre when the renovation work there is done and I haven't heard anything concrete on the future of Rowley's House. An historic building like that needs an economical or secure public use, otherwise dereliction sets in. Frankly, if the Council have no use for it (which it seems, they don't, now that the Town Council is based at The Guildhall rather than at Rowley's House as once mooted) then it should be sold off for offices, shops, whatever. Oh wait - they wanted to do that and then a petition was signed by a couple of people and councillors got scared.
Either sell it off for commercial use or create a long-term plan for its public use.
Another Flaxmill in the waiting. (And I see nothing is happening there this year... again...)

I know it is early days yet, but how is the new council coping? I hope that the people who pushed so hard for the unitary authority didn't bite off more than they could chew?
Mind you, even if things do go pear-shaped, they will not worry. As they'll find someone else to blame! But they'd soon grab the praise if it goes well!
