Through recent experience I found out that when asked by the DWP to send in original documents such as marriage certificate or birth certificate and you don't trust the postal service you can take the documents into the nearest job centre (now called job centre plus) by appointment who will photocopy the documents and given them an official stamp free of charge thus saving you risking the originals in the post.
