With reconstruction of the Burway Bridge in Coronation Avenue, the primary route into Ludlow has been closed with traffic having to access the town via Henley Road or Sheet Road. While priorities have been changed at the junction of Henley Road and Gravel Hill to accommodate the increased traffic volume, traffic entering and leaving the town via Sheet Road are having to pass under the railway bridge situated on a particularly nasty twist in the road. In order to negotiate the tight bend, drivers of long vehicles have to position themselves in the centre of the roadway with absolutely no idea of what traffic might be approaching from the opposite direction. During the closure of Coronation Avenue I note that more school coaches are using this route and from my observations of several near misses it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs on this stretch of Sheet Road. With the diversions expected to be in place until October 2008, I am amazed that warning signs, or better still temporary traffic lights, have not been installed on either side of the railway bridge.
Have you written to the highway department to tell them?
