Title: Civil Liberties
Description: Are we as free as we think?

Andy Cooke - May 15, 2008 09:12 PM (GMT)
Equality legislation means we have freedoms previous generations only dreamed of. But with identity cards and CCTV, does freedom come at too high a price? Civil liberties have been eroded as the War on Terror has been used to justify all kinds of security measures. It is estimated that there are over four million CCTV cameras in the UK. The British Police holds records of 5.5 million fingerprints and 3.4 million DNA samples on the national DNA database.

The right to trial by jury is under pressure, with Labour calling for jury trials to be scrapped in some cases, for example complex fraud trials. We the people have very little say in anything these days, over to you Big Brother!

I'm sure we have a lot of CCTV cameras here, also. But, you guys. WOW! Every where I turned, I saw one it seemed. :D
