Title: Buenos Dias!

Mark - March 18, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
The only reason I am posting this is to break the 72-hour silence on the forum. OK, and so I can get closer to post number 100. I've got nothing interesting to say (as usual), I just got tired of seeing March 15th as the last post. It appears I didn't get the job in London. No surprise there, now I just have to come up with another way to raise money for another expensive vacation.

Hi Mark
What would the job have been if you had got it?

avronb - March 19, 2008 09:58 AM (GMT)
Hi again Mark
Is that actualy your pickup in the picture?

Mark - March 23, 2008 06:12 AM (GMT)
The job would have been at either Gatwick or Heathrow and dealt primarily with immigration. They have a similar position at Manchester, but no openings at the present time. It would be extremely hard to move with the animals we have...the house, being away from family, etc.

Yes, it's a 1959 Chevrolet Apache 3200. The 3200 was made only in 1958 and 1959. It's a half-ton and the bed is slightly longer than the 3100. I bought it on ebay without going to see it or drive it. It cost 2000 pounds, and I paid 600 pounds to have it shipped about 1500 miles. When it was delivered, I got in it and drove it 250 miles home. I have done very little maintenance-wise and drove it to work everyday. Now, it's finally in the shop for a paint job. It has the original 6 cylinder engine (14 mpg!). The only parts not original are the wheels and rear turn signals.

Built to last that one, worth looking after thats for sure, whats it like off road?

Mark - March 23, 2008 06:56 PM (GMT)
I'll never take it off road. Although, with the road I live on, I do have to be careful about rocks and brush on the sides. It will never be a show truck. I do have some money invested in it, but I'll never spend thousands and get to where I am too scared to take it out in bad weather. After all, I'll still use it as a work truck.

Hi Mark, I liked the picture you posted (where's it gone, btw?) - reminds of the truck in the Clint Eastwood films 'Any Which Way But Loose/ You Can'.

It's a mystery to me. Out of the few forums that I am on, this one is the most difficult to post photos. I'm not quite sure if it's the other website that I went to in order to post the photo, or what. Number 100. WOO-HOO!

A ha! The picture is on back now.

How much does it cost to fill her up Mark?,i own a car you probably have never heard of,a Rover 100 (no longer produced)its got a 1.1cc engine. The point of this useless information Mark is that it now costs over £20 to fill it up with petrol, this is what we are paying now in rip of Britain, diesel is about £1.13p a LITRE,enjoy while you can,but having said that you dont have a grabbing goverment that takes most of that £1.13 in VAT and duty (tax). Our HGV (trucks) industry just cant compete with all the trucks coming in from the continent, they use oversize fuel tanks which they fill up in France with cheaper fuel before catching the ferries over here.
We must be the most overtaxed nation on earth now, anyhow, thats all the whinging for now.

Right now it's in the shop being painted. Also, the gas gauge doesn't work, so I go about 100 miles and just top it off. Gas is the highest I have ever seen here. It would be about....and don't hate me for this...40p per litre. It's $3.48 a gallon. It's perfect timing when we are going to be making about a 3000 mile round trip to North Carolina in June :(

Our 1993 Jeep which is tiny but is 4WD and has a 6 cylinder engine, and is my daily driver while I wait for the truck only gets 14 mpg.

The 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser gets about 21 mpg. A car would not make it down our road.
