Title: Jim Hawkins

I have come to the conclusion that everyone should boycot the Jim Hawkins program on Radio Shropshire,he never lets people have their say,and if they get the upper hand he just cuts them off,so whats the point of phoning in?.

It's been going on for years. I've never liked him or his show. He does seem to regard only his view of the world as being correct. And his views on some things just leave me thinking that he's not really "connected" with reality... saying that, some of the people who phone in are even worse. The ignorance sometimes is astounding!! But then, what else can you expect from a phone-in show that takes place during the time when the general populace are at work?

I've never listened to him because it's in the middle of the night here when he's on, and they stopped us from listening to internet radio at work when I work graveyards. Doesn't he have a weekend show? About the only time I listen to BBC Shropshire is in the evenings (your time).

Mark. You can listen to radio shropshires programmes via their website, this includes The Jim Hawkins Show
clic here The listen again feature will allow you to hear recorded programmes. Jim Hawkins has a sunday evening 'rock' show but obviously in a different presentation style
I have always been of the opinion that Jim Hawkins cuts telephone callers on his show off, proclaiming with glee when some listerners put the phone down on him, making childish comments like '' ..... I just love it when that happens.'' I think the problem is that Jim thinks he is some kind of Paxman which he clearly is not. He has a bumbling style in his speech and in presentation has a lot of hesitation. He seems to be obsessed by a 'do-good' attitude and is clearly not in touch with his surroundings than local people.
You can write to complain about his style Avronb, send an e-mail to Tim Page at radio shropshire. I know he has been told to mellow his attitude in the past but lately seems to be using the power of the button to disagree with some callers.
P.S. When do these presenters get put out to grass anyway? Obviously the beeb base this on the wogan scale!!

Being a Severn FM convert, I haven't heard his show for some time.
He can be quite rude at times - especially when he finds himself on the ropes. However, I'll give him his due, he is willing to discuss some pretty meaty subjects on his show and he doesn' t come across as a bum-kisser like Eric Smith.
Ian Perry is a good Radio Shropshire presenter. It's a pity they've stuck on the Alan Partridge shift - 5-7am

Unless it's a new program I WANT to check out, I only listen to the live programs on the BBC. After being in radio myself for eleven years, and not having ANY radio stations to listen to in English, I usually listen to satellite radio. I listen for the music, news, sports, etc. not to listen to the presenters. OK, I might give Jim Hawkins a listen one of these days.

Hi Mark
Unless you live here you will never realise how out of touch with reality this man is.

I think that most BBC ''local'' radio presenters live in some kind of bubble. Hawkins is not for example in the Jeremy Vine (radio 2 presenter) league when debating sensitive topics. I dont think Jim has a sense of humour which could help in his presentation. You are certainly right avronb he is definately out of touch with reality and time will tell as the popularity of his show dwindles. The last time Radio Shropshire had a revamp of its programming, Elvis was still alive!!
