A new flood peak of 4.3-4.5m around lunchtime on Monday in Shrewsbury. That's not as high though as the floods of last winter.

ROAD PROBLEMS
- Sydney Avenue closed because of flooding.
- Atcham to Crosshouses road closed because of flooding.
- Longden Coleham closed too today.
- Other minor roads such as at Gravel Hill Lane, Berwick Road and Old Coleham closed.

CAR PARKING
- Frankwell Car Park will be closed.
- St Julian's Friars car park closed as well.
- All other car parks are open.

This has been a winter of numerous small-medium scale floods... bit like last summer... and last winter...

Nothing serious though. The weather is set to calm down from tomorrow evening.

Chris - how have the floods affected the Longden Coleham flood defences work?

Thought it was a bad idea building them during the winter!

Chris Pritchard - January 21, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
Work has obviously stopped whilst the river is flooding, I guess we shall find out if there any other problems in time.

There are new pictures I have taken today on-line http://www.1065.thesevern.co.uk along with the latest flooding information from road to car park closures.

Just out of interest i came through town this morning, Smithfield Road, Chester Street, Coton Hill, Greenfields all back open again. The roads were extremely quiet and saw that the bypasses were jam packed - i presume these people didn't realise that it was all open again - but i sailed through this morning!! I can't say the same last night though with the traffic, it was a nightmare. But it would seem that almost normal service has been resumed - people just don't realise it yet!!!

Chris Pritchard - January 22, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
Yes normal service has almost resumed... they opened Coton Hill and Cross Street this morning. It was these roads being closed that caused most of the problems yesterday.

I went on the bypass last night around 6pm and it was backed up from the Preston island all the way to Dobies and back in the opposite direction.
