What kind of town will Shrewsbury be in 10 or 15 years time, if the destruction of our precious green spaces is allowed to continue?

I had to laugh at the comments on the Star website. Desecration of Shrewsbury etc. The field in question was the site of a lead works. Conservation area being built on, etc. Belle Vue all pretty well belonged to the Berwick family at Attingham Park. Prior to that the Abbey. In the late 19C to pay off debts the new Lord Hill sold off most of Belle Vue which was pleasure gardens and orchards at that time as building plots. The Conservation Status was imposed in the 1990s in order to preserve and enhance those houses that were of merit and the landscape, not stop all development.
Now whether you consider houses with polystyrene chimneys that look a bit like pretend Victorian/Edwardian homes as enhancing the CA is a matter of opinion but thats certainly what our planning committee favour.
No, I am not personally in favour of that piece of land being developed but the owner has every right to seek planning permission as it is his land. To his credit, the design is not the appalling rubbish we usually have like those lining the river at Julian Friars. Nor the bland, executive homes being built on the Copthorne Nursery site.
