Title: Bear Cheek
Description: Naming a bear Mohammed
Andy Cooke - November 26, 2007 06:45 PM (GMT)
Naming teddy bears after Mohammed–which will earn an infidel 40 lashes for blasphemy–is haram.
But naming your child after Mohammed–now one of the most popular names for boys in England and Wales–is halal.
Perhaps the bear should have been called ' George Bush' or Alli- ak-bear. or 'Osma bear'
I still believe that it will be an incident like this which will ultimately officially start WW3. Another stupid demand by Muslims will be finally be followed by Western resistance, Muslims will push back with riots, the riots will turn ugly and then it begins in earnest.
I hope the lesson learned by the teachers pupils who named the bear origionally is how much their teacher cares and how messed up their religious laws are.

When in rome do what the romans do I expect. The Sudan seems so out of touch with civilisation as we know it. Perhaps Mohammed not the bear, will get angry himself and smite them all from behind a bushel ! I think the most annoying thing is how slowly the home office reacted to the whole issue

Difficult to see how the Foreign Office could have reacted any differently. Sudan is the biggest country in Africa with huge mineral resources. It is also an authoritarian Islamic state with poor relations with much of the world. It is accused of crimes against humanity in Darfur and the US has banned trade with the country. A punishment of 40 lashes or worse was being talked about. The Government had to play it cool.

Okay so naming teddybears is taboo but the world seem to turn a blind eye on a similar incident which certainly sickens me!
A teenage girl was gang raped in Saudi Arabia,a court sentenced HER to 90 lashes. After she complained,it was increased to 200.
She was only 19 and a new bride when it happened.Seven men held her at knifepoint and, for a number of hours, she was subjected to a horrific gang rape. When she later went to the authorities, they sentenced her to 90 lashes. She complained in the media, so the punishment was increased to 200 lashes and imprisonment.
Her lawyer has been suspended for speaking out against it.
How SICK is their judgment? But once again, who cares?

I think you'll find a lot of people care but what can be done to stop this kind of injustice? Moan to the Saudi and Sudanesse embassy, asking them to change hundreds of years of islamic law, cut diplomatic relations, ecomonic sanctions [in the case of Sudan that would make millions worse off] declare war! None of that will help, why do you think hundreds of thosands of people escape from these areas where democracy is an unknown word.

Good to hear that she was released!

Barbaric, backwards and extreme - yes. But that's how things are over there, so who are we to demand a change in their laws?
As long as Islam doesn't make demands on the British way of life (that's a joke) then we shouldn't demand that Islamic countries change the way they do things.
As for the teacher? - The stupid liberal drip should of done a little research on Islam and Sharia before moving over to Sudan.

Yes, we tend to judge other countries by our western standards ignoring the fact that theirs is often the product of centuries of tradition.
We don't appreciate how important religion can be in other cultures. Our leaders try to spread "democracy" to other countries. How would we like it if someone tried to impose Islamic Law on us?
