Title: Relocation
Description: City centre or Bicton

I am looking for some help. My self and partner have been offered a short term contract to Move from Manchester to Shrewsbury. We are visiting the area next week to look at rental properties and would appreciate any help on chosing an area to live in.

We have never been to Shrewsbury other than the Ironbridge, but having looked at Agents and shropshire tourist websites think a city centre apartment might suit us. The centre seems to have great pubs. shops and the river for walks etc. However, I have seen nice apartments in Bicton which have a nice green area, my only concern is that the city centre might not be very nice at night and an apartment there could also be very noisey, but when I search on Bicton I get a lot of retirement properties, were in our 40's and like the counrtyside, but also like pubs, coffee shops etc. Does anyone have any opinions?

Well Bicton is really a village/suburb and as far as I'm aware there are no apartments there. You must have seen retirement flats? There might be some maisonettes.

As for Shrewsbury town centre - it's hardly Manchester city centre. Most of the new apartment developments are in quiet areas. One exception that springs to mind is Nexus on Roushill, but that's quiet compared to much of Manchester!

Some apartments you might want to consider looking into are at Blackfriars Crescent (St Mary's Water Lane), Benbow Quay (Chester Street) and the Old Brewery in Coleham. Have a look at the Nexus on Roushill too - you get parking in the town centre there.

Here are the Pooks (one of the larger estate agents) residential properties available to rent -

Some apartments are above shops on main town centre streets. Others are down side streets and passages (which in Shrewsbury is a good thing - quite the opposite to Manchester in this respect). It's worth having a look to see exactly what and where an apartment is. If you find somewhere in the town centre but aren't sure, just ask here.

Looking through what Pooks currently have on offer - there are a few at Benbow Quay and Blackfriars Crescent. Avoid the Simpson Square ones though.

Thanks for this. I've looked at the web site and one thing it shows is how important a car parking space is. I'll certainly look at the areas you suggested on Saturday, when hopefully, we will get a general feel for the place. We will then come back to actually view a selection. I must say Shrewsbury does appeal as it has the shops etc, but within a short drive or train journey you have lovely countryside.
