The Government and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs are taking a lot of flak about the loss of those CDs containing sensitive information. Certainly, they should not have released the information in that form let alone sent it in the way they did.
Internal post is apparently sent between government offices using a private courier firm who no doubt would have undercut any bid from the Royal Mail. It seems to me in my advancing years that everything is dictated by cost these days rather than quality of service. Cut costs, and you risk cutting quality. Surely with such matters we need to get away from this fixation with getting things done as cheaply as possible and focus on security and reliability?
I think big mistakes are being made by this government. Unforunately this seems to be a double wammy for Gordon Brown as his previos jobas chancellor. GB seems to have made some mistakes in his calculations it now seems and we are seeing the consequence now. If he lasts two more years he will have a very rocky ride and I think he does seem to shy away from problems rather than tackle them head-on as Prime Minister. He has now adopted the nick name of T.S Eliots 'McCavitys cat' which is very apt
