I think the Sandpits is fine. It's convenient for the walk into town and to the station. Easy access to other things nearby that might be useful (supermarkets, primary school, playgrounds, churches, library, etc). There are no reports of flooding or bridges collapsing there either, unlike other parts of the town.

I must warn you though that the Sandpits does sometimes get sneered at by some of Ludlow's residents, who seem to regard it as a cross between Chicago's South Side and Beirut, largely because they have rarely been outside the county and their frame of reference is so limited.

Does it have a bad reputation bescause it is council houses, or is there some other reason?
When i visited it looked very tidy and claen, no grafitti, or kids hanging about.

Up to the council estates in Bristol it seemed lovely !

Just wondered why people think so bad of the area?

Bad reputation is largely because it a lot of it was originally built as council houses. Pure undiluted snobbery, as far as I can make out.

To be fair, that sort of attitude is not common in Ludlow, and it's a far more welcoming place to walk around than most of Britain. Great place for children I'd say - will you be here for Boxing Day? The town grinds to a halt for the hunt meeting in the Castle grounds (which may or may not be your thing) and then a tug of war between two ancient pubs across one of the main streets in the town centre.

Many, many years ago Rock Lane and Sandpits Avenue had a reputation as being a rough area. There used to be a shop which had been broken into so many times that the windows had been bricked up. It looked more like something from Beirut rather than suburban Ludlow. The shop is long gone and the council improved the area no end years ago, modernising properties and helping to build new ones.

Ludlow's a nice place with plenty of attractions but has proved popular with people moving into the area from the south-east I hear. This has meant that houses in the town centre sell for silly money and the locals are priced well out of the market. I always like visiting the town and parking's pretty cheap as well.

Oh, and Town_Walls forgot to mention the sausages!

I visted the Sandpits a few months ago and from what I saw, I can honestly say that the place wasn't too bad at all. Certainly not deserving of the reputation it's been stuck with.

i have heard the sandpit and sandpedians are to be avoided as my sisters went to ludlow college and whenever there was a fayre in town etc it was alleged that the sandpedians came down and tried to intimidate and steal wallets etc from people.
i am only aware of this cos my sister told me it happened to one of her friends who was forced to hand over her purse as teenagers of teh same age intimidated her and requester her wallet-when refussed the teenagers dad intervened and got it from her!!
im sure they are not all like this though.....but my sister just warned us not to make eye contact with any of them if we were ever in ludlow....
